"Cindy was such a lifesaver!
"We adopted Kugel as an adult from a dog rescue group. Even though she is the sweetest dog ever, we were at our wit's end with housebreaking issues...
and we've had dogs before. Cindy came to our home, met our whole family, and instructed all of us in how to make the adjustment smooth for Kugel and us. Cindy quickly responded to any emails and voice mails which was beneficial during the training process. Kugel is now fully housebroken and we're ALL happy. Thank you Cindy!"

We contacted Cindy a few months after our son was born, when our old english bulldog, Bubbles, started showing signs of jealousy. Bubbles was having trouble assimilating to the new environment in our home and started acting out with other dogs as well (something she never used to do). We weren't sure if we were going to be able to keep her. Cindy was able to show us some wonderful tools for making sure Bubbles felt secure in her surroundings but also taught us how to be in control of the situation. We feel that our situation now has greatly improved thanks to Cindy's knowledge and are so thankful for her training sessions (and for all the sometimes emotional phone calls and emails in between). Her teaching style is easy to follow and her methods actually work. We even got printouts to refer to after the training sessions were over.I would absolutely refer Cindy to anyone I know who is having issues with their pet. She is organized, reliable, and most importantly, effective!

Cindy-- I wanted to thank you for the tremendous support you have been with my new dog, and all the accompanying issues. You have been a truly valuable resource--I can't tell you how much I appreciate your advice, and your willingness to share your contacts to make sure Janey (and I) are as successful as possible. I'm learning about a whole new world of care and kindness for our animal friends--please know that if I can support your efforts, I am happy to do so. Janey has been a great experience for me, in many more ways than your usual "pet" and "owner" relationship. Thank you so much.

Hi, Cindy:
Our lessons with you have helped tremendously! We have a much quieter home! I still have to practice the lessons more with Faith, but she is a calmer young lady! I had to take her to the Vet for a shot and mentioned I was working with a trainer. They asked me who and I said, "Cindy Mauro." She said you had an excellent reputation and had just handed out two of your cards to other owners. I will be contacting you to book some more lessons, but I want to work with her a little more. I will talk to you soon! Again, thanks for all your help!

I feel so thankful that I found your site when I was looking for trainers--you've been such a wonderful addition to our lives and to Finn's start in our family!!

We are very happy to have found Cindy! We've worked with Cindy both in a private lesson for our shy rescue dog, Chloe, and in group lessons for our puppy, Bo. Cindy clearly loves dogs and is passionate about helping their development. She is a subject matter expert and generous in sharing her knowledge.
When I first called Cindy to schedule a private lesson, I was very concerned about Chloe's fearfulness and behavior but unsure how to address the situation. By the time I hung up the phone, I felt reassured and excited about working with Cindy.
In the private lesson, Cindy took a detailed history, gave us many practical tips for working with Chloe, demonstrated techniques, and e-mailed a thorough recap of the lesson. We have been working with Chloe and have already seen improvements.
In group lessons, too, Cindy has been fantastic! Bo and I have both learned a lot just from Puppy Kindergarten, and I am looking forward to Basic Training. Cindy knows so much about dog behavior, and she is happy to share what she knows. Thanks, Cindy!

additional;
-Thanks again for your help with Chloe. Your tips for getting her to warm up to my brother-in-law were fantastic. After a couple of visits with Seth (following your instructions), there was a major breakthrough, described in the email below. – Krissie H.
- Forgot to let you know that Seth is thrilled (no lesser word will do) that Chloe let him scratch her under her chin. He has told me several times of the incident and the excitement never lessens. He gives full credit to your dog whisperer. – Harriet H.
When our breeder told us that Rex was a “high energy breed”, she wasn’t kidding! In addition, Rex was the busiest puppy in the litter when we went to choose our dog. We had no idea how to “manage” Rex when we got him home. Enter Cindy and Puppy-Kindergarten, then some home-training with Cindy and VOILA,…
We are happy to report that Rex has gone from a counter-surfing, sock and small toy thief who was constantly being put into the crate or the back yard, because we could not deal with him--to a dog who is able to participate in our family life without upending everything and everyone constantly AND the best part is he curls up at our feet for the night and just sleeps until we all go to bed!
Although he still has his moments, it is usually because we have not kept up with Cindy’s management suggestions!

“TO ALL THOSE WISHING TO NURTURE AND ENHANCE THE GIFT THAT ONLY A FAITHFUL DOG CAN GIVE…”
That’s the best way we can compose to compliment and recommend Cindy Mauro for dog (and OWNER) training.
We faced the tricky situation of bringing two Rescues into a household where a devoted 13+ year-old had the world pretty much unto himself…
While the initial signs were all positive, we knew we needed an experienced (and non-biased) person to observe, sense, reason with and recommend action. We have found this and more in Cindy.
One of the most refreshing elements of working with Cindy? She plays it ABSOLUTELY STRAIGHT. No sugar coating if stiffer medicine (really, for the owner) is needed. You could call it tough love; we call it caring, above and beyond.
Our two Rescues came from a hoarding environment…30 others, little human contact or genuine stimulation.
Well, four months later we can happily report steady, albeit “baby step” progress.
Another item worth mentioning about Cindy: We have no doubt driven her a bit crazy with our constant communications. Each and every time we have had a question, or wanted to provide an update, Cindy has responded within minutes…yes, minutes. She IS “compassionate professionalism.”
We are fortunate to have Cindy in our orb.

Cindy Mauro Dog Training was a referred to us by a friend who was pleased with her method of training.
Zoe is almost a year old English Springer Spaniel who was developing some bad behavior problems, i.e: racing out the door when it was opened, jumping-up and barking at guest, poor eating habits and excessive pulling on her leash when taking for walks.
Cindy Mauro had a sit-down consultation with my wife and I to list all the problems that we would like to correct. Step-by-step in each training session Cindy would address and showed us how to correct the unwanted behavior, and with work on our part following her recommendations Zoe no longer exhibiting these unwanted behaviors.
We would highly recommend Cindy if you need help with your dog, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Cindy,
I just got back in and I wanted to thank you for everything. I really love working with you and find it is important to like your trainer and believe in your trainer before you will ever see any results.
I do have to say I feel more (forgetful) every day when it comes to following directions. Thank God for the notes you send which makes it all the more worth while.
As for Cooper I will do what you suggest as you always seem to be able to change my dog for the better. (Maybe you are the dog whisperer inside? ha ha)
Anyway I'll work on this and see you next time. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart.

I was looking for a good dog trainer because I was having difficulty controlling my Irish Setter puppy (Finn).I had attended puppy Kindergarten and some basic obedience training which was helpful but I needed more. Finn is a high energy dog who is very playful and extremely difficult to control around friends, family, and especially other dogs. I guess you could say he was difficult all the time. Cindy came very highly recommended by a friend of my wife and I was very happy with her methods and demeanor right from the start. I had immediate results starting from the first lesson. Several people commented that they noticed significant improvement in his behavior. With each lesson Finn's behavior improved and he became more responsive. Cindy’s lessons were very focused and goal oriented. She is professional as well as congenial in her approach to training. It's obvious that she loves and enjoys her teaching vocation and loves all of her pupils. I found Cindy's rates and plans to be very flexible and reasonable. I plan to continue to use Cindy for periodical guidance in the future and would highly recommend her to anyone needing assistance in this area.

Dear Cindy,,,, Bailey is coming along nicely he is going for his 1st haircut tomorrow, he is overall a very friendly and happy animal and brings us a lot of joyful moments. Linda and I wish you a very happy new year and lots of success in the new year. If you ever wish to use our name as recommendations to talk about your training skills please do so.

Dear Cindy,
Jen and I would like to provide some feedback regarding using you as a trainer for our puppy, "Huck". First of all, I had asked around for dog trainers and was referred to you by a Vet that I have used for more than 20 years and who I trust implicitly. I am so thankful that I listened!!!! First of all, and importantly, your fees were extremely reasonable. Second and equally importantly, without sounding like a paid endorsement, you have been a lifesaver!!!!! We had never had a puppy in our home and had little idea of what to do and what to expect.
Our first meeting, prior to us bringing "Huck" home was so informative and helpful and gave us a sense of empowerment that we would be able to handle raising a puppy well in our home!! So when we went to pick up "Huck" we were ready, so we thought. The first night he came home, to say it was horrible, disastrous, and brought us to tears is an understatement. At 7:00am the next morning we sent you an urgent email begging, praying, and needing help!!!! You responded and ever since, "Huck" has been so good, so happy, and a perfect puppy. Jen and I are both amazed at your level of competence and level of caring. We sit in awe and listen to every word you say and try really, really hard to follow the lessons you teach us. Your follow-up emails explaining what you taught us, and how to do what we need to do is invaluable. "Huck" is so good with our six year old son. He doesn't jump- which you taught us, he doesn't bite, which you taught us, he is calm 99% of the time even when our son is running around and screaming. He has learned important skills and commands. Everyone who meets "Huck" is amazed at how calm, sweet, well mannered and well behaved he is. Because of you and what you have taught us, "Huck" has become a fun part of our family and not a burden or a headache or a challenge. We look forward to continuing working with you and look forward to a lifetime of enjoyment of having a well trained dog. All of the dogs that I grew up with were "untrained" and therefore although I loved each of them, they were very hard to enjoy outside of the home. They would run away, were aggressive with other dogs, would bark and scare the living daylights out of our mailman or anyone that would dare to enter our home and I was always very concerned if there were little children around. WHAT A DIFFERENCE HAVING A TRAINED DOG!!!
Sincerely,
- D, J, J, and "Huck” / HoHoKus, NJ
The recaps you send out after lessons are very helpful. Although, I think you should rename your business to Cindy Mauro Dog and People Training!
- Diann J / Kinnelon, NJ

We got April – our one-year-old pit bull mix – three months ago. She was very sweet and generally well-behaved, but she was untrained – she knew zero commands. We were shocked at the crystal clear results after only ONE lesson with Cindy! And now, after five lessons, April responds to her name, sits, stays, lies down, and walks on a leash like a perfect lady. The "leave it" command was recently invaluable when a glass fell and shattered on the kitchen floor, and we can put food on a low table within April's reach and leave the room, confident that it will still be there when we return. Cindy explains in easy terms the way a dog thinks and learns, making the training process a fascinating and rewarding experience for the owner. It is a great opportunity to get creative using Cindy's fundamental teachings – we are also teaching April "kiss" and "Ring Around the Rosie." And Cindy's perks can't be beat – she is always available with emergency advice by phone or e-mail whenever we run into trouble!

Dear Cindy,
Thank you for all your knowledge, patience, and kindness.
You've helped our relationship grow into a very special bond that continues to strengthen with each day!

Cindy,
I could not be happier with my training sessions with you and Striker. I decided to contact a trainer when I got my Australian Shepherd pup Striker because I knew how smart he was and I wanted to give him every opportunity to reach his full potential as a well adjusted dog and companion.
My sessions with you have been everything I hoped for and more. Striker and I have learned to communicate in a way that we both are stimulated and rewarded. He has learned very quickly many of the basic commands and he is enthusiastic about learning more complicated concepts and learning tricks as well. Striker loves to train his mind as well as his body.
We also have an older Golden Retriever named Tucker who has also benefitted from Striker and my training sessions. As you say, as long as a dog is breathing he can learn. Even though Tucker is almost 9 years old, he is mastering many of the commands that Striker responds so well to.
I have recommended you to many of my friends already and I know that some of them have already called you for training sessions. I will continue to recommend you to all of my friends with dogs old and new.
Striker and I are thrilled that you are a part of our lives and look forward to spending more time with you.
See you soon!

My husband and I were interested in finding a trainer for our brand new addition to the family, a Goldendoodle named Cooper. Neither of us had dogs before but always wanted one. We found out about Cindy from the Fair Lawn Animal Hospital. We looked at her website to find out more about her and with all her qualifications and recommendations we decided to call. We were thinking about doing group classes but decided that we wanted more individualized attention. Cindy is absolutely amazing. She is professional and down to earth so you aren't afraid to ask her any questions. After the first lesson and some practice, Cooper was sitting and laying down without any problem. She is willing to work with you and makes you feel very comfortable during the lesson. She even discusses and emails out little tidbits that help make for a happy puppy! I would without a doubt recommend Cindy to anyone interested in getting training for their puppy! Thanks for your help Cindy!

Hi Cindy,
Just want to thank you for all the help you have given us with Bailey. Our experience with dogs was very limited until Bailey came to “Grandpa and Grandma's” home for a very long stay. We have learned a lot from your lessons and we have printed out all of the instruction sheets. Of course we will continue to reinforce all the training.
Admittedly, we were skeptical about the lessons. It was hard to imagine that a 4 year old spoiled Maltese would be capable of getting anything out of the training. We were wrong!!! I don't know who is more proud of his new skills Bailey or Bob and I. Also want to tell you, the follow up training instructions sheets are great. It is good to have them to refer to, when we start practicing the homework of a new lesson.
We will continue to highly recommend you to everyone we know, who has a dog or hear of someone who is about to get a new puppy or older canine family member.
We truly believe that what you do is so important. Your training skills and techniques assure that the pet is part of the family as a source of joy and companionship; not another chore, responsibility or headache. We wish you continued success.

"We recently adopted a neglected and abused two-year-old boxer named Mandi .We quickly realized that she had problems due to lack of training in her previous home. Cindy was recommend to us by a veterinarian and friend. After Cindy’s first visit we could see a marked improvement in Mandi’s behavior; she was no longer jumping up on the furniture or on us and she seemed much calmer and more relaxed. Each session of training has given us more confidence and control over Mandi’s behavior. We would definitely recommend Cindy without any hesitation. One of the best things that Cindy offers is training with clear concise commands with lots of praise. Cindy is always available to e-mail or call with questions that might arise in-between sessions. The other thing you will notice is that Cindy truly loves her work and the dogs she is training."
-Lori & Bob F / N Haledon, NJ
Hi Cindy, I am Lori's sister and I wanted to let you know that I think Mandi is doing great since she has been trained by you. I babysit for Mandi when Lori and Bob are not home, and see a big difference with her since Lori and Bob got her.Mandi is a great dog and I am glad she got the chance to prove that to everyone thanks to your help. Cindy - I can't thank you enough for all your help in making Odie a more socially acceptable dog! Let's face it, everyone loves Odie. He's cute, he's sweet, and he's incredibly needy, barky and annoying. I was at the point where I was wondering if he would ever "grow out" of this phase or if his annoying habits (jumping, barking, pawing people to pet him, peeing on my floors) were just terrier behavior.
I had taken Odie to another training class and while he was good at the class, it just didn't seem to translate at home. I also invested in an invisible fence which he ran through more than a few times.
"Oh ODIE" seem to be our favorite saying at the house.
One day at the local pet supply store, I was telling my tale of Odie woe (whatever he had chewed, eaten, peed on) and they said "Have you tried calling Cindy Mauro?" and they gave me your card.
After the first lesson, I saw a positive change in Odie. He was more attentive to me as his master. I was calling the shots and Odie was listening. I wondered if you had slipped in another dog in Odie's place! As the weeks went on, Odie looked forward to training sessions. He couldn't wait to practice, even in the snow! And, boy, we had a lot of snow!
My floors were being saved. My guests were awed by the newer more polite Odie. And most of all, I LOVED being with Odie. Odie thrives on learning new things and then practicing them. And I have learned a new phrase - "high value treats!"
I can't wait until the better weather when you can come back and we can work with Odie outside on distractions. Odie can't wait either! Thank you Cindy!

My husband and I lost our precious dog Bailey over 2 years ago and wanted another dog in our life.
We came upon Benson (3 month old) a beautiful Maltese. We got him home and at first it was fine, then he got a little out of control for us. Not sleeping, running around loose, no control while walking him or around the house. I was second guessing getting this puppy, so my husband's friend from work recommended Cindy. …(mostly for me! I cried a lot of nights).
Cindy came in & gave us some directions and almost immediately things started to change. She was well prepared with handouts and hands on lessons. I started feeling better immediately, Cindy cares so much about my dog it was like Benson knew her already.
Benson has come a long way since Cindy started helping us out.
I would be lost without her.
We would recommend Cindy to anyone, even if they aren't having problems.
Cindy we can't thank you enough.

I had Nala, my German Shepherd, since she was 8 weeks old and noticed around the 5 month mark that she was becoming aggressive towards strangers. She would bark like a mad dog at people and would probably lunge if close enough. I was fortunate not to run into any biting instances but knew that something had to be done. I am fairly new to raising a dog and lacked the experience to solve this on my own. I reached out a few different trainers and even tried a couple sessions but I was not satisfied with their techniques. I searched online and found Cindy Mauro's website. I read a couple reviews about her and decided to give her a try. I sent her an email and within an hour I heard back from her, already I had a good feeling about this (experience I had with contacting other trainers you're lucky if you hear back from them within 24 hours). Her schedule was very flexible and was able to accommodate my busy lifestyle. We met up at my house for the first session and what a great experience it was. The training sessions are fun and I was able to learn so many wonderful techniques that I carry with me today. Nala is doing so much better. She does not get all warm and fuzzy with new people but she will not go crazy like she did before. The thing I picked up that it's not so much training for Nala but it's training for me. Nala is feeding off of me and responding to my energy. Cindy is a great teacher and I would recommend her to anyone that I know looking for a trainer.

Gary and I want to thank you so much for helping us transform Reese from an out-of-control maniac into a still active, but more normal lab puppy. As you know, we adopted Reese as a rescue when she was almost 5 months old, and by our count were her 5th care situation. So she had not had consistent training and discipline, and on top of that was anxious about adjusting to yet another new home. She was our third lab puppy so we thought we were prepared for anything. We were wrong. We spent the first week asking each other what we'd gotten ourselves into and whether we were up to the task of caring for this crazy dog. My daughter Sarah named her "piranha puppy" because she was apt to jump through the air snapping her teeth at people - that was her way of saying "Hi."
Thank goodness two good friends recommended you! By the first lesson with you we were feeling much better about Reese's prospects of settling into our home and family. Reese is still very active, and needs a lot of attention and consistency, but is quickly becoming a pleasure to live with. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am sending along a picture of Reese lying quietly on her dog bed -- she is much more relaxed than when we first brought her home.
I have already recommended you to friends and will continue to do so.

Dear Cindy,
We just can't thank you enough for your amazing training services! We got Snoopy the Beagle almost 6 weeks ago from Tri-Boro Animal Shelter. They placed him between 3-4 years old and we had no history at all. He has such a sweet disposition and gentle nature that we took a chance and brought him home to live with us and our two young daughters. You have to understand that since my husband and I never grew up with or owned a dog, we had no idea of what to expect or how to handle situations. We immediately began to see offensive behaviors, like jumping onto and walking on our furniture, counter surfing (I never even heard that term!), charging and jumping at me at his feeding times, jumping up to a hot stovetop when I was cooking, incessant barking during our mealtimes, forceful pulling while walking, jumping up to greet people and chewing on our things. We could not live with the stress. We even had a great home for him to go to if it did not work out. By the end of the first week my husband found your website online, and I immediately called to set up a training appointment.
In only the first lesson, Snoopy stopped counter and stovetop surfing and learned to sit, lay down and watch our faces when we “cued”!! You taught me how to prepare his food and feed him in a stress-free, peaceful environment! I can actually “cue” this hungry hound to sit and wait near his food dish until I tell him it is okay to go eat!! Snoopy is also learning to come to us when we call him, and he can resist the instinct to grab food just because I say, "Leave it." Your training techniques, and the skill with which you teach them, are invaluable. The difference in Snoopy's behavior from the first week we had him until now is unfathomable to us! We are so grateful to you for giving us skills that empower us to be Snoopy's leaders instead of bystanders. Now we can easily and effectively communicate with him. Thanks to you we are not only dog owners, but rather, we are dog lovers who are enjoying our Snoopy! We will see you soon for our next training session! I will highly recommend you to any of my friends and family!
Sincerely,
Jill and Howard B. / Kinnelon, NJ
Having a puppy and a new baby in the home, we thought it would be wise to learn some helpful tools from a trainer, to help us raise our dog Chu Chu to be a well behaved, happy dog. The training was very helpful, it has taught us what to do and what not to do as we grow with our dog. Thanks again Cindy,
-Cori & Greg G. / HoHoKus, NJ
When I moved from the city to the suburbs, my Shetland, Ted, saw a whole strange new world. He is a true Shetland sheepdog that watches out the window all day. When we lived in the city we were on the 27th floor and he saw nothing. Now he sees delivery trucks, police cars, and other dogs. The mailman and UPS man became his enemy. I found Cindy through a neighbor. Cindy helped me with techniques that calmed Ted when the trucks came by. He still perks up when they come by, but he no longer sees the delivery men as his enemy. Cindy was great with Ted, and it is clear that she loves dogs. I have recommended her a number of times to friends.

We contacted Cindy because, as first time dog owners, we were overwhelmed trying to house train our new puppy as well as train him not to bite. We knew he was a good dog but we didn't know how to bring out the best in him. Cindy taught us how to show Troy that we were in charge but always in a loving and kind way. We enjoy him so much now and the lessons were also a lot of fun!
Cindy is extremely knowledgeable about dogs and how to train them. She helped us build our confidence in giving commands to Troy and Troy is extremely well behaved now. We receive compliments from many of our friends for how nicely he listens. We absolutely recommend Cindy to anyone who has a puppy or a dog and needs help with training. Cindy is an expert in her field who brings a loving touch to her clients. Who could ask for more?
- Lesley & Gene M. / Fair Lawn, NJ
Cindy, we contacted a dog trainer because this was our first dog we had ever owned and we wanted to provide her with the best possible care. We were facing some challenges with potty training Bella. Busy schedules were making it difficult for us to figure what would work for her; she was using the “puppy pads” inside, but essentially we wanted her to potty outside. Working with you was a great experience, and we have seen some great improvements in Bella's behavior. She is maturing into quite the young teenager! With your guidance, we felt empowered and confident, knowing that we were using effective training methods. We personally believe that Bella respects us more as owners, since we were able to establish clear boundaries and rules. Even though we only worked with you for a short time, it is evident that you are patient and really care for helping animals. Will and I would be happy to recommend you to our friends and family!

“I realized I needed one-on-one training with my dog Teddy (my first dog) about a year after I adopted him. Teddy had developed some bad habits his first year with me that I did not realize were bad habits until they rose to the level of biting a guest’s boot on her way out the door. After having Teddy treated for arthritis, my vet recommended I work with Cindy to train Teddy out of the bad habits he developed when he was in pain and address some other behaviors that I now know are a result of fear. The first time I spoke with Cindy she made me feel very comfortable and confident that she is a true dog lover who wanted Teddy to succeed as much as I did and our first lesson made it clear that she has the experience necessary to know what will work for my dog. Teddy made significant progress in his first lesson and continues to impress me with how fast he is learning every day! Calling Cindy was the best thing I could have done for Teddy – and for me. I am confident that in what will seem like no time at all Teddy’s “bad habits” will be nothing but a memory.”

After many years of research I adopted a puppy, Lola. She was 4 1/2lbs of cuteness but all else that came with her was foreign to me. While I had dogs growing up, a puppy was more than I bargained for. After several sleepless nights and many bouts of frustration I surfed the net one night for a dog training. While I found many on-line that did group training's (and even some at the local pet stores) they just didn't seem right for me. I needed the one-on-one attention and fast! I found Cindy's website and was so impressed with her rescue work that I felt she was the one for Lola and I!
Well it turned out Cindy was much, much more than I could have ever asked for in a trainer. Not only did she have Lola walking outside on a leash to "do her business" within the first 10 minutes of meeting her, she also had her sitting and lying down in the same session. She has continually been a godsend to me during many of Lola's tantrums and growth spurts. I have sent the panicked e-mails at midnight and surprising gotten answers very shortly after.
Cindy is always encouraging and patient as well as very informative. She has been THE BEST resource I found since I started my journey with Lola. She has lists of many additional services that a pet owner would possibly need and continues to offer guidance even after the lessons are through..
I can't thank Cindy enough for her dedication to her craft. You deserve a big THANK YOU!
Stephanie J / Waldwick, N.J.
My Bella loves Cindy and because of Cindy's expertise, experience and desire to teach the pet parents, not only the dog, we can now walk Bella and not worry. I am so glad that I decided to contact Cindy. I don't worry about Bella pulling and hurting me or my husband. We all love Cindy and would not hesitate to call her back if one of our other dogs had a problem.

It was my pleasure to work with Cindy training my dog, Missy. Cindy was very encouraging and positive which made it easy to work with her. She was as excited as I was when my pup took so well to the training. Cindy is a professional with a kind and loving heart and gets the job down painlessly

Although my family had owned a lab before, we were not quite ready for the amount of energy that Roxy possessed as a puppy! She would surely have fit in well on the set of Marley and Me; she was always finding herself in a bit of trouble. We came upon Cindy while researching local dog training classes and requested a home visit. As soon as she stepped through our door, we knew Cindy was an answer to our prayers! Cindy clearly loves to work with animals, and animals clearly love to work with her. Not only did she teach Roxy, but she also taught us! Cindy breaks down the many different aspects of dog training into very understandable concepts. As the owner, you don't only learn how, but why...which has made training Roxy a much easier process.
Roxy is just turning two-years old and is still a bundle of energy and love. But she is a controlled bundle of energy and love. Just the other day, a visitor had stopped over the house and was amazed at how calm Roxy was behaving. (Roxy remained quietly in her sit-stay until released!). People always comment on how well she behaves when we go for our walks.
My family would definitely recommend Cindy to anyone looking for a dog trainer! There is no doubt that her help and guidance was the key to successfully training Roxy!

I knew Cindy growing up and knew what an animal lover she was. I was thrilled to find out that she was doing dog training. I am even more thrilled after completing our sessions with her and our Cavashon, Charlie. We are so happy with the change in our little guy. He was always a sweetie but we just did not know how to handle him and thanks to Cindy, he has much better manners when people come to visit! We loved our sessions and learning the building blocks to develop a better relationship with Charlie. It has made a world of difference. Cindy is the ultimate professional, patient and supportive and I would be happy to recommend her to my friends, family and coworkers.

Thanks Cindy for making our dog a mensch. Our trials with the "exuberant puppy" have paid off because of your professional handling. You convinced us that our Teddy was a good dog in spite of his initial behavior, and you patiently showed us how to work with him. He has improved markedly. Neither of us have taken Valium or sobbed in a long, long time, and we attribute much of the improvement to your patience and clarity. Your lessons were well put together and well documented. Teddy would thank you if he could because he is now part of the family.
Yours truly,

Thank you Cindy,
- for making me a dog lover!
I never had pets growing up and wanted to get one for my children. My husband (who did have a dog growing up) was not sure.
He wanted a big dog, I wanted a small dog. I wanted a white or tan dog, He wanted something unique.
We adopted Joey Nov. 2009. Joey is a lab/border collie mix. He was 65lbs when we got him and only 10-12 months old.
He was perfect except he barked at men that came to the house and growled at them when we went for walks. One time he nipped at my 20 year old nephew.
We immediately called Cindy.
Five sessions later, Joey is doing great.
He is more relaxed and although he still barks at men when they come to the door, we have the tools now to get him to sit, relax and back off!!
The “most valuable” lesson learned was “When children and dogs are together, the age of the children is equal to the number of feet away an adult should be at all times, to supervise”
A friend gave me an article about the fear people have of big, black dogs. I was one of them. It was after that article that we adopted Joey (big, black dog) and after Cindy that I learned not to fear him.
Thank you Cindy.

"Cindy, Thanks for helping us learn how to train Foster. We learned a lot about how we need to be consistent with our directions and commands and how we go about teaching him his role in the family.
Cindy, you've been a life saver. We were being forced to consider relinquishing our newly adopted dog that our older daughter found and was walking every morning because the dog pulled our younger daughter down and dragged her when she was trying to walk him. Needless to say she was scratched up and wanted no part of the dog.
Cindy introduced us to the gentle lead leash and some basic commands that have improved our dog walking experience 100%. Even our younger daughter is walking the dog again! What a difference. Thanks!
We would recommend Cindy to anyone who has recently acquired a dog. She was a great trainer for us because she came to our home and trained all four of us (myself, husband and two daughters). Foster is our first family dog so we knew very little about training him. Because he's a strong, large dog it was critical we learned to have control over him. Cindy taught us how to train him so we didn't feel lost once she left."

Thanks to a patient teacher with the know-how to work with animals, I know Remy is on the road to becoming a well trained Bichon. The steps needed are easy to do, documents are available for review, and success is clear from the start. Thanks to Cindy, I will have a gem of a pet!

"Cindy Mauro is a wonderful dog trainer. She helped us train our Pekingese, Gizzmo when he began exhibiting negative behaviors. Using Cindy's techniques we were able to teach our new dog many important commands and change his behavior to help us all live together more peacefully. We've had Cindy come to the house for one-on-one sessions and also participated in group training classes with other dogs with Cindy training, and all have been beneficial." Update from 1st vacation with Gizzy: "Gizzy has been a model dog. When ever he gets anxious we start our training. It's a miracle......thanks to you! My parents and sisters cannot believe it's the same dog. I really have to say thanks to you again for all your help. We've practiced all our commands and I can see them working. He's been perfectly behaved."

They say you cannot teach an old dog new tricks, with this in mind my wife and I were totally discouraged about ever getting our ten year old
Tibetan Terrier Baxter to obey commands and eliminate his aggressive behavior. Baxter has a common problem found in smaller dogs "fear"........fear of noises, strangers, sudden movement Ok almost anything. My wife spoke to our vet about how serious Baxter's aggressiveness had become and what choices were available to us other than to put him down. I cannot imagine allowing that to happen. The vet without hesitation said, Cindy can help Baxter. My wife made an appointment with Cindy, we found her to be very helpful with Baxter our 10 year old Tibetan Terrier. She taught us to interact with Baxter being firm and consistent. Cindy's guidance and behavioral training instructions gave Baxter a new direction to follow. Baxter will now pay attention and follow our commands Not only Lorraine and I have found Baxter calmer and willing to follow commands, but our vets staff noticed a real turnaround in Baxter's behavior.
Yes you can teach an old Baxter new tricks
Our special thanks to Cindy, what better way to thank her but a sincere recommendation to our pet loving friends.

"Kramer is a 4 year-old rescue dog whom we have tried to train before. He is still very hyperactive and delights in greeting visitors with a flying leap. Cindy is currently working with both of us to "teach him manners" so that he can behave around my new granddaughter. Cindy is the perfect trainer because she teaches me strategies for dealing with specific behaviors. She truly understands "dog" and combines authority with compassion for animals."

I adopted Maya when she was three years old. As time went on her exuberance for life made me think her name should have been Sunny. However, she became too exuberant and was difficult to control on walks and in the house – especially when people visited.
Enter Cindy … after spending time educating me about my place in Maya’s life we began training. It worked!
Here’s what I learned about Maya through working with Cindy …*Maya is smart! I lost sight of that stressing over her exuberance. She took to training so well – a star student.
*Maya is my shadow …sometimes she sits in a chair next to my desk and just stares at me – lots of devotion. However, I think she was almost waiting for me to be more of the “leader”. Once I started doing what Cindy taught me Maya and I had a different kind of connection and bond. I’m more devoted to her than I was before … she continues to have eyes only for me J
*All the behaviors we worked on with Cindy continue to improve (* … it’s going to take a while until she behaves when someone comes in the door – but we’re working on it!)
*A trained dog is a dog everyone can love!
Thanks Cindy!

When we got our first puppy, we had no idea how much work was involved. Maya is a pug, and she was always very hyper and really didn’t listen (at all). At a friend’s recommendation we left her with Cindy when we went on vacation. When we picked Maya up a couple weeks later, she was an entirely different dog! My husband and I could not believe the transformation! Maya was calm, well behaved, and not hyper at all, I think the biggest surprise was we walked in the door, and Cindy told her to “sit” and she DID! - And she continued to sit nicely while we greeted her (instead of bouncing off the walls which was her norm). Cindy showed us the behaviors she taught Maya, and Maya listed to every one! Thank you Cindy!I am always recommending Cindy as a trainer to all my friends and clients.
